George Wootton (16 October 1834 - 15 June 1924) was an English cricketer. He was born in Nottingham and played first class cricket for the county of his birth from 1861 to 1871. He also represented MCC from 1862 to 1873 and played several first class games in other matches. A prolific left-arm fast bowler, he took 983 wickets at just 13 with a best of 10 for 54. A tail-end batsman, he scored 5 half centuries, compiling 2431 runs in all at 10.43.
He took the bulk of his wickets, 564, for the MCC, with a best of 9 for 37 while he took 180 for Nottinghamshire and 50, at just 8.12 for England XIs. His best year came in 1867, when he took 142 scalps, but he took over a hundred wickets each season from 1866 to 1869.
Wootton also stood as a first class umpire in matches from 1871 to 1883. He died on the 15th of June 1924 in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire.
